Very Good For Starters
There is no doubt that JJG did a great job in writing this book. In few words in each chapter he managed to explain in details each elements of the user experience with good references and examples. I think for those who want to start this career they need to read this book.
More about teamwork than the user experience
This is an abstract, conceptual book with very few concrete examples. As someone designing a website as a solo project, I didn't find it useful. I would recommend this book only if you're managing a large team and need a framework to coordinate your designers.
I did enjoy the diagrams, which employ Garrett's unique (and sensible) style. You can find out more about this "visual vocabulary for information architecture" at Garrett's website.
Truly and INTRODUCTION to User Experience
As a professional in the UX industry, I found this book to be incredibly elementary and I did not really "learn" that much from the book. HOWEVER, I am not discounting the book's content. If you are a Business Analyst or someone new in the field, there can be a lot gained from this book.
It is a short, quick read with plenty of illustrations and a decent typeface size. From my perspective, it gets 3 stars. But if you are truly new to this, I could see it getting 4.5.
Great resource!
Excellent book for all Web designers, project managers and graphic designers that wish to create Web sites.
