I created my first web pages in early 1995, typing HTML into a Notepad file, long before CSS was invented. Now my skills are rusty, and web standards have changed. I've looked at several other HTML and CSS guides, but this one is the best. Unlike many other books on these same topics, this book is remarkably easy to understand, which means I'll know how to apply what I'm learning to new situations in the future. Yes, the book is "fun" but that's what makes the explanations and exercises memorable. Furthermore, the Head First series makes a point of issuing revised texts as standards continue to evolve. This proves that technical writing does not have to be boring. Thank you, Freemans!
Head First HTML w/CSS&XTHML
I was a bit intimidated by the concept of "learning" to write code for websites. It just seemed too complex to understand without any previous training or education in that field. The book starts out by telling me how they developed the book and why I should read everything and do the homework at the end of each chapter. In this book... if ya wanna get it... ya have ta do the HOMEWORK! But the homework is actually easy and fun. I have had ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) all my life and this book works for me! It keeps my attention and engages me by allowing me build and work with web pages from the very first chapter. I did not think that I would actually start writing code and looking at the results in the first chapter! It was rewarding to see the results. Gosh... I love that Starbuzz Coffee Page!!!!
If you know almost NOTHING about web design/development and are intimidated by the idea of "writing code"... This book is for you ~~ Joe
Great Book!!
This book is great! Very entertaining and full of information. It makes learning HTML, XHTML, and CSS a lot fun!
Excellent book
This book sharpened my XHTML and CSS skills, and I use it frequently as a reference.
Great book for beginners on the How and Why of HTML
First of all this is not a boring book. This books teaches you HTML with CSS in very easy to understand step by step instructions. I am telling you, they break it down, you learn the how and why of HTML. You can read and follow along or you can learn by doing. They include plenty of pictures of the before and after. I created my website in Dreamweaver MX2004 a long time ago, but I didn't understand HTML, so I used the Design View. If I had found this book first I would have created my site in Code View, and saved myself a lot of time. Now I know why certain things didn't work, and how to correct them. I am in the process of cleaning up my code and doing things more efficiently. I am lucky that someone recommended this book in a review they were writing to someone complaining about how hard it was for him to learn Dreamweaver CS4.
